Cool pic. I agree that there is hidden beauty in places that we don't think about or we just don't notice. Looking at your pic reminds me a lot of Argentina. In Argentina there is a lot of grafiti and for them it is a huge way of communicating politics, ideas, opinions, religion, and love. I saw so many different types down there and the majority of them were good and not degrading in anyway. They even had some of bush and 911. Just like we use are to communicate with each other so does mother earth. For example the seasons, winter, summer, spring are all examples of how earth communicates. Maybe even with earthquakes and hurricans too.

Graffiti is an interesting topic. I do like how it adds color and spunk to otherwise boring concrete buildings, but on the other hand, I'm not a huge fan of all the resources that get used to either cover it up or scrub it off. If the building owners would leave the graffiti up, even if it is about something threatening or unsavory, it would provide more color and sabor a la ciudad. I like graffiti, even if I sometimes don't agree with the message.

I would have to agree with everyone that I think a lot of graffiti is really cool art. I still think it depends on this relationship that everden talks about. Painting on a boring wall is really cool but what about carving hearts into trees? I know in the book la araucana he supposedly writes a pretty poem in a tree and people either like it or dislike depending on that relationship that they have with nature.

Has anyone seen the newish graffiti downtown of the Virgin Mary and her burning heart? I rode my bike down a few weeks ago to get a closer look. Standing right up against the wall drastically altered my perspective--the figure was distorted and nearly indistinguishable.
