Wow, I never thought about this comparison until now, but it really does make sense. Not only are narco-traffickers starting to controll different parts of the country (as in Columbia), the U.S. is also proving as a major importer of the drugs (whether willingly or not), the same as with the issue in Columbia. Oddly enough I watched a movie about a week ago that talked about the way the drug issue in Columbia developed, and how it spread to the U.S. It's called "Blow"..and it's actually fairly interesting with a storyline, rather than just a historical documentary :-)

It could turn out to be a similar pattern in Mexico as Colombia. However, at the moment, Mexico doesn't have an insurgency like the FARC operating in remote jungles to cooperate with the narco trafficers. The drug dealers in Mexico are powerful but do they have the same level of fire power and movement as the insurgents in Colombia? If that changes, watch out.

I heard this in the news this week and made me think too. :(
