Have you ever thought about the links between ECOlogy and ECOnomy? They both have to do with keeping house, with managing nature around us by naming it and studying it... Can the two be divorced in the future, or are we going to have to start thinking of them as actually sharing the same root?
Here's a book review on prosperity without growth:

I was just thinking of the title 'prosperity without growth' and its connections with the economy. I can't answer the other question yet but a thought on economics. A rule of thumb is that growth is always good, which subsequently brings prosperity. This is not always the case. One not need look further than the recent housing bubble. Although it was growing economically, the country was setting itself up for failure. Numerous other examples can be found in other countries and the US's policies to help them grow. Prosperity and growth aren't always synonymous.
I think that we are going to have to start seeing them as a coupled pair. As it is, raw materials taken from the enviroment are processed and sold to consumers in stores. So in a way, they already are paired, its just that many people don't realize that the table they bought in IKEA came from somewhere. But more important than understanding the relationship that exists, is learning how to manage that relationship (recycling/'green' industry). So yes, we will need to start thinking of economy and ecology as paired, because in fact they are.
